OWNERSHIP AT DISCOVERY

At Discovery, we decided to forgo membership and take on an ownership mentality. We think  membership comes with a sense of entitlement while while ownership comes with a sense of expectation. Ask any home/business owner and they’d tell you that as an owner, they will do whatever it takes to further the effectiveness and longevity of that possession(s).

As a church, we want to take on that same mindset. Therefore, if Discovery becomes your church home, we ask that you to take ownership of this house. Ownership at Discovery is defined by living out all 4 of these Responsibilities: 1. Prioritize Sunday Mornings 2. Serve Selflessly 3. Live in Community 4. Give Generously

1. PRIORITIZE SUNDAYS

At Discovery, our Sunday Worship Experiences (W.E.) are an important part of who we are. We believe that scripture is very clear that ‘those who are planted in the house, will flourish.’ Our W.E. are designed to create a space for people to begin a Faith in Jesus Christ as well as a space to grow in their relationship with Jesus. PRIORITIZING SUNDAYS as an owner  is important way that we can intentionally start our week off saying “God, you have the first portion of my time.”

Each January we invite our church family and others to participate in a prayer and fast with the intent of deepening our relationship with God. 21 Days of Prayer is a partial fast recognized as an effective means to receive direction for our lives as we begin the new year. Fasting itself is a spiritual discipline which provides an avenue for us to renew our spiritual commitment to serve God’s purpose for our lives.

The goal of fasting is to become more sensitive to the voice of God in our everyday lives. We do this by dedicating more time to spend with Him in prayer and Bible reading each day and by refraining from certain foods. When the fast is over, we should discover a new strength to overcome the cravings that may seem to control our lives at times.

2. SERVE SELFLESSLY

When it came to Jesus’ mindset about His mission, He made sure to always model it! We see this displayed when Jesus told His disciples that He came to serve…not to be served and then proceeded to wash His Disciples feet. As an owner of Discovery, we take on the responsibility to SERVE SELFLESSLY just as Jesus did. This is done through our Dream Team. Our Dream Team is made up of men and women who help make our Sundays possible by using their gifts to create a space for people to experience the love of Jesus on a Sunday morning. 3. LIVE IN COMMUNITY

At Discovery, we believe that Community is important! Community creates opportunities to learn and grow. In the book of Proverbs, the author writes ‘as iron sharpens iron, so does one person to another.’ As an owner of Discovery, you are intentional with participating in Groups. Groups are the best way to create meaningful friendships that will help you grow in your relationship with Jesus.

4. GIVE GENEROUSLY

At Discovery, it is our posture to live with open hands. We believe God has entrusted each of us with different levels of resources. In scripture we are taught that in return of God entrusting us with resources, we in turn trust Him with a portion of what we have received. This is called a tithe. Tithing is the tangible way that we put God first in our lives and clearly establish our priorities and who we are serving. As an owner of Discovery, you are committing to further the mission and vision of Discovery through giving of your resources. You can learn more about giving HERE.

What is the value of fasting?

Recognizing the value and benefits of fasting is important. It can and should become a viable part of your lifestyle. Fasting helps you increase the quality and quantity of your prayer life. It also gives you the opportunity to focus on areas of personal and spiritual change.

What results should you expect?

You will discover a new intensity when studying the scriptures and a more productive prayer life. You will also overcome cravings that usually control your life and a greater dedication to serve the purpose and will of God for your life.

Do I have to adhere to the exact diet?

The precise details of your fast are between you and God. In Romans 14:20-23, the apostle Paul describes how we should relate in love to one another in the matter of what we eat or choose not to eat.
